A walk

Birds sing and roost
Ending a day in disappearing light.
We walk hand to lead,
I talk to you,
Debunking each everyday.
As the dark appears,
You look at me
With those eyes
That say “food?”
We peer through a window,
Into a reading room,
To see if there is space.
For a drink
Next to a fire.
There isn’t.
We shuffle off
Through rain and shop lit
Reflections in pavement puddles.
Carrying on to tomorrow.
